So blogging from a much different area, much different part of the country.  There are a lot of dirt roads, camo hats and trucks about.  No more just stopping by the store on the way home to pick something up.  No waking up in the morning and heading out to grab a cup of coffee and a bagel.  It’s quite surreal.

Anyway, I’m hoping that all had a good holiday season and did all the things they wanted to… Partied too hard, stayed in and relaxed, ate way too much awesome food, drank too much stuff that tasted great….

Like I mentioned earlier, during this time, I was kicking off the time with a move.  Oh… If only I had more time, because I ended up having to have people come in and help pack up the boxes.  The important books were all loving packed away and marked clearly.  Some of the other stuff, well, not so much.

In fact, I think the comment made (more than once) was, there are too many books and too many shoes.

Of course, now I’m finding myself having to organize (AGAIN!) these beautiful things. *sigh* But at least I know where they are.  The utensils on the other hand are still missing as is my Inniskillen wine key.  While this made me sad, I lasted a two full days before being forced to go out and buy a new wine key.

Ok, so see that picture??  That’s what I wanted to do.  I was going to paint them, coat them, clean them and then use them as cake toppers on top of cupcakes.  Easy Peasy and oh so Cheap.  Right?

So I love to craft.  My only problem is that something either comes out awesome or awful.  There isn’t an in between for me.

So today, I was planning on spray painting some dollar store dinosaurs for an upcoming birthday party with Krylon Twilight glitter spray.  It’s a really dark blue color with some purple flecks.

I tested it on one which came out beautiful.

After checking it over, I went in for the set, also grabbed a couple lackluster blue tree ornaments i had bought on sale last year.

I  set down the plastic and spray over everything with a good coat.  Happy with it, I stopped to wait for them to dry before flipping them over do the other side.

Except the spray can wouldn’t stop spraying.. it just kept going.  I tried to pull up a little on the cap which came off spewing more stuff directly into the air like a bug bomb.  Ugh!  So I put the cap back on, but it’s just spitting the clear stuff at me so I can’t even use it.

Now I have a bunch of half decorated ornaments and dinosaurs.  Of course, there is no other paint in the house to fix it.

I probably shouldn’t care but for whatever reason, this was the ONLY package of dinosaurs in the two closest dollar stores!

I’m afraid of spraying over these in case they come out blotchy… or lumpy??

So, then I dumped them in warm water and manually started scraping the paint off….. No, this won’t be time consuming at all.

And actually, after reading the reviews on Amazon of the paint, I’m super pissed that these people are allowed to sell it.  I mean, they had to use it, so I am sure they understood how crappy a product this probably was and said…. EFF it, if we sell a few thousand and people have to throw it away… well, that’s still more money than we would have made just scrapping the whole thing…

But really, I had the exact same problems they did, so this isn’t a fluke issue.

so last night I had a greatdream.  we were in a Zombie Preparedness Camp heh (inspired by our convos??) one the bus ride there, yes we had to leave our cars and be bussed into a separate facility, guess who was there???? lol yes, my lifelong crush WW.  and we had a nice normal conversation where I called him a cute gamer boy, but in a totally not awkward way.  (cuz that’ll ever happen)

I will reiterate that I did not want anything to happen, just was happy I had met him and he wasn’t douchey.  (nothing ruins a celeb crush like meeting them and them acting like an entitled ass) He was of course wearing his wedding ring (which i still think is awesome) and graciously accepted my compliment and that was it. (disclaimer:  I am fully aware that he may not be like this at all and am just projecting whatever I want in my head, but who cares?  something great about unrequited crushes on people I will never meet is that, none of it matters!  I can appreciate what I want and just leave it at that, but sorry…. back to the dream)

The facility was all glass except for the bedrooms and bathrooms, so not enough places to hide.  Pretty much we could always see out and anyone out could always see in.  Two people to a very small room, with bunk beds and the bathroom attached, no closets.

Otherwise, the first night we were there we were all setting up the strategies for if/when “zombies” (camp workers dressed and acting like zombies) would breatk into out complex.  Since we were, of course, waiting for zombies, we were instead woken up in the middle of the night to deal with a were-car (yes i said were-car lol) and we had to distract it by dancing or it would “run us down”. …. it was an interesting dream.  I guess it was really to prepare us for any wierd supernatural event.

Oh sorry.  It’s okay.  I have been depressed but all is well.  In other news I have an offer me a free cruise to the bahamas!

So just yesterday I was lamenting that I still didn’t have a Hunger Games shirt that I liked.  Today I see an update on merchandise for the upcoming film.  I saw the above and immediately thought of Lela.  I, myself, am partial to the bracelet they have.

And I started thinking… why does it need to be a shirt?  I know that’s the easiest way to wear something that supports your fandom, but it is certainly not the only way.  There are various ways to stamp your merch with designs and phrases of things you know and love.  Just a few posts ago, I mentioned owning robots on shoes, socks and ornaments, so why wasn’t I applying this to THG?

My cell phone case is Star Wars and I have various coffee mugs with characters on them, such as, the Avengers and Harry Potter.  A few years ago I bought a nice leather cuff bracelet with Jack and Sally on it as a gift and just this past Christmas, I found a Rainbow Brite reusable water bottle.  There are various toys and action figures around my home ranging from South Park characters, Spock (in a transporter tube that lights up!), Sherlock Holmes lego figurines, Cybermen, Futurama action figures…. My fridge is covered in various magnets, so there is no shortage of professing what I enjoy… in my home.  Its the stuff I want to wear out that shows it, althought the Reavers shirt from yesterday should have been offered in an apron.

So I was just going to publish a half post, mainly it was just to point any Firefly fans over to RiptApparel.com for this Reavers shirt but then I got to thinking.  I mean… where do people get their shirts?  I have a few I really like, a Forbidden Planet/Futurama mash up from Woot.com and of course the Tardamask from Threadless.com.  I’ve bought from ThinkGeek, Cafepress, Redbubble and DieselSweeties, but the internet has an endless supply of wonderful shirts.  DieselSweeties had a wonderful little handwritten note inside my purchase and I know that ThinkGeek had really good customer service if any of the purchases come out incorrect.

I am still, however, on a quest to find the perfect Hunger Games t shirt and I’m hoping with only 50 days left before the movie comes out that stores will start carrying more and more of them.

So right on the heels of this news:

Star Trek 2

“Two British television stars have reportedly been cast in the upcoming sequel. First up is Noel Clarke, best known as the Doctor’s former companion Mickey Smith on Doctor Who, who has been cast as “a family man with a wife and young daughter.” Clarke has confirmed his casting on his Twitter, though he didn’t comment specifically on what character he is playing. Next up is Sherlock star and owner of the most awesomely, ludicrously British name in history, Benedict Cumberbatch. He’s reportedly been cast in an undisclosed part, and that it’s reportedly a “lead role.”

I got very upset about the possibility of having to see Star Trek 2 in theatres based on the actors in the film.  I am a huge fan of Simon Pegg, Sherlock and Doctor Who and of Star Trek TOS, but I was not a huge fan of the last new Star Trek movie. ”

My rant went something like this:

Mickey:   Yea and Spock and Uhura… making out.  Plus planet exploding (Alderaan) um.. getting lost on ice planet (Hoth, although YAY for Leonard Nimoy!) the pacing was all Star Wars, not Star Ttrek.  I didn’t think it was an awful movie, just wished they’d kept the pacing of Star Trek, one thing about the originals is that it’s very cerebral.  A problem presents and normal methods don’t work, then it’s a lot of discussion about how to fix things.  Explained best by Philip J. Fry:

Fry: Usually on the show, they came up with a complicated plan, then explained it with a simple analogy.
Leela:  Hmmm… If we can re-route engine power through the primary weapons and configure them to Melllvar’s frequency, that should overload his electro-quantum structure.
Bender: Like putting too much air in a balloon!
Fry: Of course! It’s all so simple!

So I didn’t hate the movie, but I didn’t love it either.

Here was Lela’s take on it.

Lela:  I never watched the original remember? We had this convo.  But I would agree that the pacing of Star Trek was Star Wars-y.  I really enjoyed the movie though.  I think I watched it about 9 times… 

And because I loved Star Wars so much I was okay with it, the effects, the eye candy. 

Now, given the little I do know about Star Trek, I was not comfy with Spock getting down with the chick…  It logically, did not make sense.  I can see him maybe doing what she said because he loved her but didn’t understand the feeling, but yeah, didn’t like that part.  However the rest, okay by me. 

My dad is a huge Trekkie though and he loved the new movie.  I would imagine you feel the way about the new star trek as I feel about the new Clash of the Titans.

Blasphemous crap. 

Mickey:  Everyone felt that way about the new Clash of the Titans.

So yea… of course the admission that ST2 had a lot of Empire influence as well:

Producer Bryan Burk also discusses the sequel, suggesting the movie hits the ground running in a way the first one couldn’t:

“Unlike the last film, where we were restarting and setting up the characters … we’re going to jump right back in, and we don’t have to set up everybody and we can go right in it. We’re kind of in a mad dash at the beginning of the film. In all of our conversation, we reference a lot of our favorite films and how ‘Empire Strikes Back’ was spectacular and how they were able to pick up and keep going.” 

*sigh*

Anyway I’m going to throw out that everyone should be following George Takei  and Wil Wheaton on twitter as they are hilarious.
